La Rochelle – Île de Ré Airport
La Rochelle – Île de Ré Airport is an airport located 2.5 km northwest of La Rochelle,〔 a ''commune'' of the ''département'' of Charente-Maritime in France. The airport also serves Île de Ré, which is accessible via a bridge from La Rochelle.
== History ==
In February 2012, the European Commission announced that it had launched an investigation to examine if public subsidies given to La Rochelle Airport, as well as marketing deals between La Rochelle Airport and various airlines, breached EU rules on state aid. In particular, the Commission would examine if public subsidies worth €3 million received between 2002 and 2005 by the airport operator to finance infrastructure projects at La Rochelle airport were necessary to carry out the investment, whether the aid was proportionate to the objectives pursued and whether the infrastructure had satisfactory medium-term prospects for use.
